About Shoofly Design, Inc.
The idea for Shoofly Design, Inc. began in 1989. At that time, I was an art student at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, studying visual communication and fine art. In addition to attending classes, I supported myself with a freelance job designing and hand-painting children's clothing and canvas shoes for a boutique in an affluent North Shore suburb of Chicago.
Upon graduation, I began my career in graphic/web design, illustration and advertising. The "shoe biz" was put on the back burner, but as the dotcom era evolved I realized that it had the potential to be a fun niche business on the internet. So, I utilized my design/advertising experience and launched www.shooflyshoes.com in 2002.
Although I was not yet a mother when I first opened my business, my creativity is now inspired by my two young daughters. Designing products for children allows for limitless exploration with many of the basic principles of design, and, for me, nothing could be more fun!
After much research and planning, I have identified a niche market for children's footwear that allows for unique whimsical designs that are not available on a mass-produced scale. Each pair of Shoofly Shoes are designed by me, and are hand-painted and/or embellished with care and attention to detail by either myself or my production assistants in Colorado, USA.
I hope that your own children, or those you are buying a gift for, enjoy their new shoes and think of them as fun on their feet! If you have any questions/comments about our products, please feel free to contact us. We'd love to hear from you. Thank you for your interest in Shoofly Design, Inc.
Best,
Lisa Schulist, President
