Company President: Lisa Schulist
The idea for Shoofly Design, Inc. began in 1989. At that time, Lisa was an art student at the prestigious private art school The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she received her BFA in 1991. In addition to attending classes, Lisa worked part-time as a freelance designer for an upscale children's boutique in an affluent North Shore suburb of metro Chicago. There, she designed and produced hand-painted apparel and baby shoes.
Upon graduation from art school, Lisa began her career as a graphic designer, and later, also worked as an art director, web designer and illustrator. She has worked for J. Walter Thompson, Tribune Media Services, Ambrosi & Associates, and several other marketing/communications firms in Chicago, where she worked on many high profile accounts.
Lisa's interest in starting-up Shoofly Design, Inc. grew out of a desire to create objects that allowed her to use a real paint brush again, in addition to the digital paint brush she had been accustomed to working with via the computer. Also, she envisions this business as a means of providing flexible job opportunities for independent contractors (located in Northern Colorado) who have (craft) painting and hand sewing skills.
